SCAN-A-MIZER™ MONITORING SYSTEMS
The new SCAN-A-MIZERTM Series sensors from Harris Instrument Corporation provide a low cost, yet highly reliable alternative, to scanned laser measurement. SCAN-A-MIZERTM is very effective in applications that require width measurement, edge guiding, center guiding, position monitoring, and loop control of products manufactured in a continuous strip. Manufacturers that process textiles, non-wovens, metal strips, plastic films, rubber belting, paper, and building products can all save and profit from the advantages of using the new SCAN-A-MIZERTM technology.
SM-Series sensors consist of an emitter, a receiver and a power supply box with a twenty foot [2.13m] emitter-to-power supply cable and a twelve foot [3.65m] emitter-to-receiver cable. SCAN-A-MIZER™ emitters are available in twenty-inch [508mm] (Model SM-20), thirty-inch [762mm] (Model SM-30) or forty-inch [1016mm] (Model SM-40) units enclosed in a gold anodized, splash proof, extruded aluminum housing with a Lexan® viewing window. Receivers (Model SMR) are housed in black polane painted, aluminum enclosures with extruded aluminum mounting plate/bezel enclosing a viewing window and with horn blinder attached. The black polane painted, NEMA-12 SM-Series power supply enclosure contains a 90VAC to 240VAC auto-switching power supply to provide sensor power +12VDC @ 0.25Amp and –12VDC @ 0.05Amp. Each emitter contains an array of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) that are lit sequentially. The receiver photocell detectors generate an electrical current whenever the pulsed light from the LEDs reach the photocell. Since the light from the emitter is pulsed at 20kHz, the current generated pulses at 20kHz, helping to prevent the interference of typical ambient light. For strobe light suppression, a 10Hz Low-Pass Filter is available on the output to filter out such light interference. SCAN-A-MIZER™ SPECIFICATIONSFour Analog Output Modes (all 100 Ohm Impedance): First Edge 0-5VDC (20), 0-7VDC (30) or 0-10VDC (40); Edge FAULT Open Collector: Opens when no material in scanning area, Power Supply Dimensions (NEMA-12 rated): 8.25" [209mm] T x 6.28" [159mm] W x 3.78" [96mm] D; System Power: Universal 90VAC-240VAC, Switchable, Emitter-to-Receiver Separation: Model SM-20 = 20" [508mm] to 72" [1829mm]; Dynamic Range: 19" [482mm] (SM-20) to 39" [990mm] (SM-40). (Dynamic Range is decreased by the ratio of the Linearity: Model SM-20 = 0.250% of range; Sensor Dimensions: Emitter = Model SM-20 – 24.2" [614mm] L
